We at MARG believe in PPT (People->Process-> and Technology). The People were there to take desisions, now we required a process to be in place, the Idea to implement SAP came at this time. Am ERP would enable MARG to follow a systematic procedure from the starting and will be sustainable in the longrun. Being IT as the backbone for any Industry, the management gave no second thought for a high alue budget for IT.

We started with evaluating different ERP packages available in the market. We hired a Project management consultancy to evaluate the ERP packages based on the need of MARG. It took around 15 - 20 days to shortlist these ERP packages as per the Rank give:

1. SAP

2. Oracle

3. Ramco

4. Navision

As the scenario at MARG was totaly different coz, unlike other constructions company MARG was not limited to constuction, but into Development of SEZs, PORTs, MAlls, and various other projects. The best suited ERP package seemed to be SAP and the management zeroed on this.

Now the most important issue was to choose an Implementation Partner.

Lots of IT companies approached us, and the bidding process started. It was a very delicate issue, as we had to take care of two important things: 1. Cost of implementaion

2. Experience of Implementation partner.

There were round of talks, negotiations and finally the job was awarded to Quintegra Solutions Limited.

We had the skills to manage the project, but as SAP was a total new ERP to us, We thought of hiring a PMC (Project management consultancy) and the job was given to VALGEN who did the Evaluation for MARG. There role was to keep an eye on the implementation, and to raise concern of any devition or customization in the implementation.

It was a real learning experienc for me, as I was a SAP Basis Consultant, and my role earlier was to design the DATA Center, the connectivity at sites, getting Appropriate servers for SAP and Maintaining SAP. But there was more for me......

I really appreciate myu Boss Mr. Shenoy, who develpoed me as a corporate leader, taught me the lessons on management, shared his real time experiences, and guided me all the time. AS he was from a non IT background he relied on me for the technical stuffs, and I proved him right. He insisted me to be there for every meetings, every negotiations, gave Auhorizations to take decsisions, It was a shift from my job profile, I was in the process to be an IT manager.

During this implementation, I completed many projecta, and assignments. Like

1. VSAT connectivity for all ous sites.

2. Designing and develpoing a DataCenter for SAP servers.

3. Preparing IT policy.

4. Judging the best IT products suitable for MARG.

After selecting these vendors for implementation and monitoring, there were two major tasks left:

1. SERVERS for SAP

2. License for SAP. We were going live with all the basic modules of SAP along with CRM and Refx.

to be continued....

MARG

MARG Limited (Formerly Marg Constructions Limited)

CMD: Mr. G.R.K.Reddy

MARG is among South India's fastest-growing infrastructure and realty companies.
